The Best Drywall for Bathrooms (and Why It's Not Always Green Board)
Feb 8, 2026 · 5 min read
For most bathroom walls, USG Mold Tough® or equivalent is the right call — paperless or paper-treated to resist mold growth in humid environments.
Behind tile in showers, use cement board (or a comparable tile backer). Drywall, even mold-resistant drywall, isn't designed to live behind tile in a wet area.
Ceilings: standard ceiling board is fine if you have a working bath fan. If not, upgrade to mold-resistant board and run that fan after every shower.
